.URUKUST
The maker behind the brand, Yasue Tsuchihara started leather crafting at the age of 13. Yasue pursued her studies in Design, eventually starting her career as a bag designer. In 2011, she created the ".URUKUST" atelier to focus on her own products. Yasue feels strongly that a good design doesn't come from sketches but from the hands. She practiced through trial and error to understand what "creating" means to her, and her designs reflect this. All of her pieces are made from one piece of leather, using minimal simple handstiching and metal.
The brand name urukust is tsukuru written backwards, which means "to create" in Japanese. In today's disposable, consumer driven society, she hopes to bring the emphasis back to handmade, individual design.
All of .URUKUST's leather is natural cowhide; as a result, it has varying textures and may have slight blemishes, unevenness of color, or wrinkles.
All leather used are processed without pigments in order to feature the genuine leather's character, without hiding natural blemishes and color variation. Due to this, it tends to stain with water or sweat and may discolor. When it comes to contact with water, wipe it off with a dry soft cloth immediately and air dry. When a water stain lingers, wet a soft cloth, wring out excess moisture, and gently wipe around the stain to make it less noticeable.
It is natural that with use, scratches will go on the leather. Minor scratches will become unnoticeable with use, but you can also apply an appropiate amount of leather cream if you like. It's not necessary to apply excessive oil since the leather laready contains plenty. Only when the surface looks dry, apply leather cream. Wiping it off with a dry, soft cloth is sufficient as daily maintenance.
