Jonote Weavers
In Cuetzalan, a small town in the state of Puebla, Mexico, a group of women artisan led by a mother and daughter-in-law duo create hand weave baskets using Jonote tree fiber and Bejuco flexible wood. The artisan harvest these materials themselves following the lunar cycle; jonote is harvested at new moon and bejuco is harvested during full moon.
Each materials are ethically and locally sourced and the artisan creates each one of these baskets by hand by creating a frame with bejuco and weaving around the frame with jonote fibers using traditional basketry techniques. For over 20 years, these dedicated artisans have been weaving intricate baskets, preserving their cultural heritage and sustaining their community.
Handmade by a women-owned cooperative using native and sustainable, endemic Jonote tree fibers and Bejuco soft wood. These eco-friendly baskets are versatile and can be used for various purposes in your creative space, elevating your interior atmosphere. Ethically made using sustainable resources, this Mexican craftmanship brings balance to your home with practicality and sustainability.
